ALPHA (Adolescents Learning Positive Health Alternatives) is a Peer Leader Program led by teens (Peer Leaders) to make a positive difference in the lives of freshmen at Frankfort Community High School. ALPHA opens the doors of communication to help, to support, to challenge, and to change, for the better, the life of a young person.
This is a program, called 40 Developmental Assets, designed for freshmen to promote positive behaviors and attitudes and to help protect young people from many different problem behaviors. The more assets students have, the more likely they are to exhibit leadership, maintain good health, and succeed in school. There are 8 asset categories. Support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, constructive use of time represent the external assets. Commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and positive identity represent the internal assets. For many students, the assets have become a source of ideas and inspiration in the face of frustration and even despair. These categories paint a picture of the positive traits all young people need to grow up healthy and responsible.
The ALPHA Peer Leaders will meet on Tuesdays for lunch before the ALPHA Thursday to prepare the lesson for the week. The program at FCHS will begin on Thursday, September 16 , and will conclude on November 4th.
The officers for the 2010-11 school year are President, Shawna Talluto; Vice-President, Kassidy Sisk; Secretary, Nicole Ridgeway; Treasurer, Christi Bromley.
The following students are ALPHA Peer Leaders: The sponsors are Mr. Matt Hampleman, Mrs. Donnette Dean, and Mr. Dan Miner. |
