  PARENT INFORMATION

    Attendance Counts

Want a surefire way to help your teen get off to a super start this school year?  Encourage him to attend school.  Kids who go to class regularly are more likely to graduate.  Try these tips.

·

Show how learning relates to real life.  If your teen thinks a skill is useful, he's more likely to learn it.  Example:  Planning a vacation draws a research of skills.

·

Tell your child not to skip class just because he's struggling.  Tell him you'll arrange tutoring or other help.

·

Find out our school's attendance policy.  Let the school office know your child is going  to be absent.  (618)-932-3126

Extracurricular Activities

Did you know that after-school activities…………..

·   Are a great way to make friends

·   Provide the opportunity to learn teamwork and responsibility.

·   Fill time in a positive way-so kids are less likely to get into trouble

·   May lead to better attendance and grades

Extracurricular activities cover a wide range of interests, from sports to clubs.  Have your teen check with school staff for information on available programs.

Parent/Teacher Conferences- We would like to invite all our parents to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences to be held on Nov. 2, 2009,  from 1:00 - 6:00 and on February 22, 2010,  from 1:00 - 6:00 pm.  Hope to see you there.

Report Cards - 1st quarter mid-term will be November 20, 2009.  If you have not already emailed the district for your Parent Portal password, you may send an email to jgrant@wfschools.org  to have access to view your child's progress.

Teacher Conferencing- Frankfort Community High School teachers are very interested in speaking with you concerning your child's progress.  However, in order to protect instructional time, please write a note or call the school to request an appointment to speak with your child's teacher.  The teacher will then get back to you and schedule an appointment during their regularly scheduled plan time, before school, or after school.

Student Activities- A new offering this school year is our High School Activities Calendar located on our school web site.  Go to our home page and log on to the calendar to keep updated on happenings around our campus.

Safety- School safety is an issue that is always foremost on our minds.  Be reminded that all visitors to FCHS must come to the school office before going anywhere else in the building.  Visitors must report to the office, get approval to proceed and a visitor's badge, and sign out upon departure.  If your child is going to ride home a different way than normal we must have a note from home, signed by the parent confirming this.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in these matters.

Inclement Weather Information- It is very important for you to have a plan of action with your child in case school is cancelled or dismissed early.  The following TV and radio stations will have school closing information in case of school cancellation or early dismissal caused by inclement weather.  KFVS - TV Channel 12, --WSIL-TV Channel 3 - WPSD -TV  Channel 6, WFRX, Z100 and W3D. Our new phone system is now being used to inform parents and students about cancelled days.  Each enrolled student should receive a recorded call from our Superintendent, Mr. Goins whenever school has been cancelled..

Please speak with your child and make sure they know where to go and what to do in each situation.  In cases of inclement weather, we ask that you do not call the school.  This helps keep our phone lines free for emergencies, and in most cases, the TV and radio stations are notified before we are.
