Goins, 39, begins his tenure in the Frankfort School District after a successful five years as superintendent of the Thompsonville School Districts. At Thompsonville, Goins was instrumental in the consolidation of the Thompsonville Grade and High School Districts into a reorganized unit school district that is now recognized as Thompsonville Community Unit School District No. 174. In addition, Goins led Thompsonville through its first school construction project in recent years with the completion of a new Junior High School addition in 2005.
Goins is active among area superintendents and serves in numerous leadership roles. He is an officer in the Egyptian Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators and has been inducted into the Education League of Illinois, Education Council of 100 at Southern Illinois University, and the SIU Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International.
The Goreville native is just one of five school administrators in the state to serve as a member of the Illinois State Beta Club Council for honor students. In addition, the new district 168 leader has experience on the other side of the board table after serving as Vice-President of the Goreville Community Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education from 2003 to 2007.
Prior experience includes serving as principal at Century Middle-High School in Ullin from 2000 to 2002 and a two-year stint at Joppa-Maple Grove High School as a junior high school teacher, athletic director, and head high school boy’s basketball coach from 1998 to 2000. Goins began his teaching career at Carrier Mills High School in 1995.
Goins earned a Master of Science in Education in Educational Administration in 2000 at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is currently a Ph.D. student in the same program. As an undergraduate, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1992 and was a student-athlete at John A. Logan College prior to receiving his Associate of Science from Shawnee Community College in 1988.
The newly appointed superintendent is the son of Dr. Manul and Shirley Goins of Goreville, both retired educators. Manul Goins is a retired superintendent from the Carterville School District and served as Interim Superintendent of the Murphysboro School District during the 2006-07 school year. Shirley Goins is a retired foreign language teacher from Goreville High School. Goins currently resides in Goreville with his wife Raetta, who works in higher education as an Instructional Services Program Assistant at Shawnee Community College. |
