Frankfort CUSD 168

This is a message from Frankfort CUSD #168: A little after 8 am, West Frankfort Police were called to an apartment in the neighborhood around Denning Elementary School regarding a resident making threatening comments about having a weapon. At that point, the school was out on a soft lockdown status. The incident was resolved shortly before 8:30 and the school is going back to regular status. No students were in harms way during the incident and the school maintained their regulations programming. We take the safety of all of our students and staff as our highest priority and communicate out as soon as we can to preserve the safety of all. We will proceed with our regular day as we prepare for the weekend. We thank everyone for their concern when incidents like this happen in our community. The West Frankfort Police Department may have further information to release at a later time.

Good Luck to our Volleyball Team as they take on Herrin tonight at Central gym. Freshman starts at 5pm. Our HS girls golf team travels to Pinckneyville today. Our HS boys golf team will take on ZR and Eldorado today at FCCC! Good Luck Redbirds!!

Reminder we do not have a sophomore football game tonight. Our first sophomore game will be September 9th at Herrin.

First Home Football game tonight against Massac. 8/30 7pm If you are a Denning or FIS student bring your SuperFan card. Any students that wear red or a redbird shirt will get in free. Any HS student that dresses in the theme will get in free as well. (Frat Party)

HS Boys meet is canceled for today (8/29) due to heat and IHSA rules.

Both HS golf matches are cancelled for today (8/38) due to temperature and IHSA guidelines.

Both the girls and boys golf matches scheduled for today (8/27) have been cancelled.

The Class of 2025 held their annual Senior Sunrise this morning at The Eagle's Nest on the Lake. We would especially like to thank the Eagle's Nest for the cookies and doughnuts that were gifted and the ballon arch for pictures! Have a great year Seniors!

Reminder: Tomorrow (Thursday, 8/15) Tailgate Spots. We are changing the location to The Commons area in Max Morris due to possible inclement weather. Reminder that band parents can come at 5:30 as well. Please Share: We will be in Max Morris tomorrow for the Tailgating spots.

We are needing a part time HS nurse for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to start our year off. Anyone with an LPN or above will be certified. The person will not have to take all three days. If you are interested or have any questions please email bharris@wfschools.org Please Share.

The Bus Barn's phones are down right now. We do not have an ETA on when they will be working. If you need to make contact with the Bus Barn, you can go there in person. The Illinois Elks are offering a free children's orthopedic clinic. All the information can be found on the attached flyer.

Don't forget that today is our first annual Block Party for registration. Come up and get your locker and lock, schedule, parking sticker, and physical if needed. We also have free school supplies and Silver Jewels is selling Redbird wear.

With a slight tweak to the Dismissal times for half days, the updated 2024-2025 Public School Calendar has been posted on all of the school district's websites in the button section. You may also access it at this link: https://5il.co/2ssdv.

Our FCHS Athletic Handbook is now available online on your Teacherease account. Anyone that plans on participating on any athletic team needs to complete the five forms included in the handbook. Also, any student playing football needs to upload a copy of their insurance cards. Athletic Physicals can be turned into the FCHS office. All Fall Sports Athletes must have this completed before the first day of tryouts/practice on Monday, August 12, 2024. Students who have not completed the online athletic registration process will not be allowed to tryout, or participate in practice, until this process is completed. Please contact the FCHS office with any questions.
